Denia has a large fishing fleet and a fish market held every day and located in the Esplanade de Cervantes, fishing remains important for the economy of Denia along with tourism. The Port of Denia is well known for its fish, and usually about 700 cases of high quality fish are auctioned each day in the Port of Denia. La Longa del Posit is a new fish market that opened in 1997. Previously, in the old market the auctions were manual, but now fish are auctioned electronically. The fish market is divided into two rooms, one for selection and the other is the auction room. The public can watch the selection of the fish and the auction from the upper floor windows.
